The 2009 Australia MONOPOLY Championship took place on March 4, 2009 near the top of the Eureka Tower in Melbourne, Australia. Defending champion Leon Hechtman successfully retained his title, defeating a field of 8 competitors consisting of himself, 6 regional champions and a wildcard competitor determined by an essay contest.
The tournament consisted of a preliminary round with two tables. The top two players from each table at the first round advanced to a final round. Players used the Speed Die (first time this was used for an Australian championship) and $1500 starting cash.
For winning, Leon received a trip to the 2009 World Championship in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
