The ninth MONOPOLY World Championship took place October 3-6, 1992[1] at the Grand Hotel Esplanade in Berlin, Germany. This was a notable location because Monopoly had previously been banned behind the Iron Curtain. Joost van Orten of The Netherlands was the champion, beating a field of players from 28 nations plus the defending world champion. His prize was $15,140 (the amount of money then in a game of Monopoly) plus a gold medal.
